Top 5 reasons why you should move from UK to Europe after Brexit

Living in the United Kingdom was pleasant a few years ago, but things are changing in Britain fast! Especially after voting for Brexit, the future looks uncertain and foggier than ever for Britons.

In this post, we’ll talk about the top 5 reasons why you should move from the UK to Europe, after Brexit!

The weather

Britain’s weather is very predictable, always rainy! It doesn’t really matter whether you’re living in England, in Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland! During some years, there are less than 10 sunny days in London!

Traveling to a rainy country such as the United Kingdom could be fun and romantic, but have you ever attempted to stay in London for a full season? Especially during winter when it’s either raining or snowing in London! We are simply using London as an example, anywhere you go in the UK, such as Manchester, Liverpool, Edinburgh, or Belfast, the situation is the same!

Just look at two closets, one belonging to a Briton, and another one to someone in Southern France! It makes one crying blood for the Briton person! A British person’s closet is full of raincoats and long sleeves, with the T-shirts and skirts becoming dusty on the corner!

How do you like to wear your fall clothes all of the summertime?

Well, It’s not that bad that Britain receives lots of rainfall, every year. At the end of the day, Rain is the main reason why Great Britain is all green with those amazing hills! But opening your closet and see all of your clothes are wet isn’t a fun experience either!

There are a lot of countries in the EU, where you even have the winter sun in Europe such as the winter sun in Cyprus! The options are unlimited, as the countries in the Balkans, Southern France, all of Portugal, Cyprus, Malta, and a few other countries in the EU are like heaven on earth!

But be careful! If you are a Briton, as you walk outside the airplane, your body reacts to the sun, similar to the Vampires!

Traveling within the United Kingdom

All of the cities in the United Kingdom are well connected, with the option of moving by train, by car, or by airplane. However, have you looked at the prices of commuting between the British cities? How about £150 for a train ticket from Bristol to London? The prices of traveling to another city in the UK is unexpectedly high, and not worth it!

Having a vacation in London for 4 days would cost you more than £500 ($630) if you play it cheap! While you can travel to a sunny place in Europe for a little less than that price! Plus, what is waiting for you when traveling to another British city? Only more rain!

The British culture

The British culture is rich with great historic figures such as William Shakespeare, but how about now?

The current British culture has less to do with the arts, theaters, and galleries, you may be asking why? Because buying a theater ticket in Britain would cost a middle-class person an arm and a leg! When living in Britain, you’ll get invited to the pub over and over! It’s funny the first few times with those tasty domestic beers, but after a while, you’d get sick of going to the pub and drinking several times a week!

The British culture is shifting from being open-minded and thriving to more of a depressed over drinking one!

Recently the British government has limited the budget for education and academics which would only result in no international bright-minded person would have the option to enter the UK anymore!

British food

Since we talked about British culture, we have to talk about foodie too! British cuisine is all around the oven, with many varieties of pies, a few stews, sausages, fish and chips, and umm, done!

However, Britain is a great capitalist country which means you have access to any ingredient you’d like, year-round! In fact, most British people have to learn international food recipes and cook them instead! The most popular international cuisines in Britain are Chinese, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Thai, and Persian cuisine.

But the restaurants in Britain aren’t doing a fantastic job anymore! The restaurant menu prices are going up, as the quality of their food is dropping dramatically!

Then, are you ready to wave goodbye to the British pies and say hello to other European cuisines?

Prices

Outsiders usually think that Britons are getting richer and richer every day, which is umm… not true!

The reality is that British citizens often have to pay a lot for rent, even for a small shack with almost no isolation to protect them against the brutally cold weather outside. Those who live in London, either have to be very rich to afford to live in London, or have to share their place with someone else, or rent it with their partner who’s working full time as well, so that they can split the rent!

According to expatistan:

Monthly rent for 85 m2 (900 Sqft) furnished accommodation in NORMAL area £2,075

Monthly rent for 85 m2 (900 Sqft) furnished accommodation in EXPENSIVE area £2,401

Utilities 1 month (heating, electricity, gas …) for 2 people in 85m2 flat £208

You should also consider that these prices are for normal places with no special option!

Let’s take you on a short trip to the amazing city of Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. Did you know that the cost of living in London (United Kingdom) is 79% more expensive than in Lisbon (Portugal)?

You could rent a better apartment in Lisbon for less than half the price of London, and yet have more fun, winter sun, and better quality of living in Portugal!

Racism in the UK after Brexit

Right after the Brexit was chosen by the Britons, immediate racism popped up in the country against immigrants, and even against immigrant looking Brits! Unfortunately, the internet is full of those videos of British people attacking immigrants because of racism!

Understandably, no one likes to have immigrants in his/her country since there might be less opportunity for locals to get jobs and things like that, but a lot of immigrants are paying much higher taxes compared to Brits themselves.

Brexit

When the Brexit question popped up, nobody would’ve thought that Britons would vote to get out of the EU. Surely, not everything is great about being an EU member country, but the pros weigh way more than the cons!

Anyhow, that’s what had happened, and there’s still time for Brits to settle in an EU country until December 31st, 2020. After that, the situation will change, but as BBC suggests, those who settle in an EU country from the UK will be eligible to remain in the country of their residence after the UK – EU deal is over!

  1. I’m really sorry but this is the biggest load of rubbish I’ve heard or read in a long time. As a Brit, English born and bred I feel absolutely insulted. Brexit is not responsible for the weather, for Gods sake, or the food. We love our pies and stews in the colder weather, that’s why they became such a great part of our culture.

I’ve lived in the South of France. I’ve had a house there for 30 years, and I lived there for 10 of those years. Of course it’s a lovely country, but it still can be cold and wet in the winter months. I came home because I missed my family in the UK, and it’s my home. Today here, in the East where I live it’s 35 deg Celsius, It’s summer!

By the way, I did not vote to leave the EU and am very sad to do so.

Please if you are going to write a post like this, don’t fill it with generalisations and lightweight facts. Do your research.

I have followed your blog for a while now, and have always enjoyed it. But you have gravely insulted both me, my family and my countrymen. I find that unacceptable.

Leave if you must, but please don’t slag us off to your friends, family and countrymen.

    1. Dear Belles days, I’m so sorry if you felt that way reading it.
I am a Briton myself from my father’s side and when writing this post, I wasn’t feeling like an outsider, but I can understand it sounds a bit harsh and apologize for that.
I love Britain from the bottom of my heart, but during all of these years, I see how the situation is getting more complicated and challanging for a lot of people and reflected that in this post.
And for the wrather, you’re right. It has nothing to do with the Brexit but It’s kind of disappointing if there would be no freedom of movement for Britons, they would have no other choice, but to tolerate gray sky throughout the year, and my approach was to bring that factor to the focal point.
I’m so grateful for having you as a reader and hope you accept my apologies.

Thabk you for your comment! 😊

  2. 😂😂😂 about the rain: as a British expat I can confirm that is true. And also unfortunately about the racism: that half of the population seem to be winning 😳😳😳

  3. UGH!!! I’m getting reverse culture shock just reading this! Also, the racism thing is not recent. It’s coupled with a lot of anti-immigrant sentiment, which I got more than my fair share of. Because of that, I was not surprised of the Brexit vote. These reasons you mentioned are exactly why I left in 2013 and have no desire to return!

    1. You are surely an intelligent person dear Winteroseca!
Hopefully things would get better after a few years of being anti-immigration, since no country could ever thrive in the history without opening its doors!

      1. Thank you 😊. I kind of have to be when both my passport countries went to hell in the same year. It’s like being in an abusive relationship living in a country that’s going to hell. Fortunately, for both of them, I did (and will) GTFOH!!
England has been anti-immigrant/racist for decades! And suddenly people act surprised when racism explodes. Just like my other passport country. 🧐
