The World Tourism Organization reported that the international tourism has had a 4% growth in 2019 compared to 2018, and even though in 2020, we’ve experienced such a thing like Covid-19 that was unique and found its way on every corner of the world, the numbers in international tourism are predicted to be at least equal to 2019 when more than 1.5 billion people traveled.

10- United Kingdom: 36 million tourists
The UK has welcomed more than 36 million visitors in 2019, with London being the most popular destination in the UK with an average of 12 million visitors each year. Other popular UK cities would be Edinburgh, Birmingham, and Manchester, while the most popular tourist attractions are Big Ben, the Tower of London and Stonehenge.
9- Thailand: 38 million tourists
Thailand is the 9th most visited country in the world with more than 38 million visitors in 2019 thanks to its weather, white sand beaches, and stunning culture. Bangkok, the capital, has been visited by 22 million visitors last year.
Thailand’s most popular spots include Railay Beach, Koh Phi Phi, and The Grand Palace of Bangkok.
8- Germany: 39 million tourists
The country of beer, sausages, and castles welcomed more than 39 million tourists to itself last year. Berlin alone has been visited by more than 13 million visitors in the past year.
7- Mexico: 41 million tourists
Mexico is located in North America, below the US. This country is becoming a tourist’s favorites rapidly. Visitors’ main reasons for visiting Mexico are Mexican stunning beaches, fantastic Mexican cuisine, and UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Some of the country’s most visited destinations are Cancun, Mexico City, and Playa del Carmen.
6- Turkey: 46 million tourists
Located between the West and the East, Turkey is a mixture of both worlds. Turkey is blessed with gorgeous beaches, awesome Turkish beach resorts, and an amazing culture to experience. Antalya, a beach city in Southern Turkey has been visited by more than 19 million visitors last year.
Famous tourist attractions in Turkey include the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, and Hagia Sofia Museum.
5- Italy: 62 million tourists
Italy, the center of the Roman empire has been visited by more than 62 million tourists in 2019. Italy is famous for its culture, amazing food and coffee, fabulous wine, historical places, and stunning beaches.
Some of Italy’s best-loved attractions include the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Colosseum, and the Pantheon.
4- China: 63 million tourists
China, the third-largest city in the world has been visited by more than 63 million tourists who go there for its beautiful historical places such as the great wall of China which is a UNESCO heritage site, and fabulous nature.
Famous attractions include The Great Wall of China, the Forbidden City, and Tiananmen Square.
3- United States: 80 million tourists
Tourism makes more than 7 million jobs in the US, making it one of the key factors in the country’s economy with more than 1.6 trillion in economic output. Most tourists in the US are from Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Japan, and China.
2- Spain: 83 million tourists
Spain is the world’s second-most visited country with more than 83 million tourists in 2019 alone. Tourism generates more than %12 of Spain’s national GDP, as well as 13% of its job market. Most visitors in Spain come from other European countries.
Some of Spain’s most famous places to visit would be La Sagrada Familia, Park Güell, and Alhambra.
1- France – 89 million tourists
France is the world’s most visited country in 2019 with more than 89 million tourists during the year. Paris alone attracts more than 17 million visitors to itself on average each year. Tourism in France makes 9.7% of the overall GDP and provides 2.9 million jobs.
Disneyland, the Louvre and the Notre Dame Cathedral are some of France’s most visited attractions.
