Recent History of Belize

Belize was a British colony called British Honduras and later on when it became independent, they renamed it to Belize.

The country’s flag is interesting. It is the only one in the world, showing human!

People in Belize

Even though less than 400,000 people call Belize home, the population is diverse. half of them are Mestizo (European-Latin American), a quarter is Creole (Black-European) and there are %11 Mayans (The Mayan calendar made everyone think the world would end on December 21st, 2012) and the rest are Indian, white and Asian.

There’s even a small group of Mennonites. They are like Amish people with some differences. For example, unlike Amish, Mennonites don’t abandon technology entirely. The ones living in Belize are of Russian descendants but speaking German!

Almost everyone in Belize speaks English as it is the official language. Some people also speak Spanish, German, Garifuna, Mandarin, and Maya. Pretty cool, right?

This fascinating hole is so close to Belize, there are a lot of boat tours which you can book. You can even go diving to the hole and meet the magical hole’s residents!

Xunantunich

Xunantunich is an Ancient Maya archaeological site in western Belize.

Its word means “Sculpture of Lady”, referring to the rumors claiming that ghost of a lady is living there.

It was a hotspot in 1980 among cool young adults and hippies.
