Recent History of Belize
Belize was a British colony called British Honduras and later on when it became independent, they renamed it to Belize.
The country’s flag is interesting. It is the only one in the world, showing human!
People in Belize
Even though less than 400,000 people call Belize home, the population is diverse. half of them are Mestizo (European-Latin American), a quarter is Creole (Black-European) and there are %11 Mayans (The Mayan calendar made everyone think the world would end on December 21st, 2012) and the rest are Indian, white and Asian.
There’s even a small group of Mennonites. They are like Amish people with some differences. For example, unlike Amish, Mennonites don’t abandon technology entirely. The ones living in Belize are of Russian descendants but speaking German!
Almost everyone in Belize speaks English as it is the official language. Some people also speak Spanish, German, Garifuna, Mandarin, and Maya. Pretty cool, right?

Great Blue hole
This fascinating hole is so close to Belize, there are a lot of boat tours which you can book. You can even go diving to the hole and meet the magical hole’s residents!
Xunantunich
Xunantunich is an Ancient Maya archaeological site in western Belize.
Its word means “Sculpture of Lady”, referring to the rumors claiming that ghost of a lady is living there.
It was a hotspot in 1980 among cool young adults and hippies.

In my opinion, there are two main directions when you arrive in Belize, Les Cayes or San Ignacio. They can be reached directly from Ladyville Airport.
Les Cayes offers all the usual seaside pleasures, beach, diving, bars … If you like it, it’s perfect.
San Ignacio offers a wide range of activities, to be undertaken by yourself or with one of the many agencies. You can even take a day trip to Tikal in Guatemala. There are many travellers but the local life remains active which allows you to get to know the country beyond its tourist facade.

The great blue hole looks so ominous when viewed above. I could just imagine an enormous eye slowly opening at the middle of the hole hahaha. Still, I’m sure it looks magical up close. Great post!

Saw Belize from a distance in the January of last year 😊 Was visiting Guatemala and had taken a boat ride to Livingston. I was told across the Caribbean Sea from there was Belize 🇧🇿
