Gabon was colonized by France for a few years until they became independent on August 17, 1960.
Although they have elections there, Gabon is still ranked as a non-democratic country.

More than 40 African tribes are living in Gabon but the vast majority of them are Bantu.
There’s an impressive community of more than 10,000 French residing in Gabon too.
People speak French as their official language and local languages as unofficial ones at home. English is widely spoken throughout the country as their third language!

They’re usually by the sea, enjoying the waves. But don’t expect to see them whenever you go there, sometimes you have to wait for a while.
Lopé National Park in Gabon
About %10 of Gabon’s land is protected for its nature. Lopé National Park was the first one that got protected and it’s on the UNESCO heritage sites list. There’s a small research building in the park, where Ecologists from the UK are residing and they have special tours to offer.
Pongara National Park in Gabon
This unique National Park is right beside the ocean, making it ideal for some beach time at its beautiful beaches.

Don´t travel to Gabon, that´s my advice! Corruption there has reached an unprecedented scale, and you might end up in the middle of the jungle with drunken policemen… There are nearly no decent tourist facilities, but everything there is even more expensive than in Europe – despite the fact that most of the people are incredibly poor. Except for a very small, super-rich upper class as well as the French Expats.

I really enjoy your posts on African countries and other lesser known countries. You bring many interesting facts to light. One suggestion relates to the information under history. It would seem that the history of these countries begins with colonization. Of course that is incorrect. And might be viewed as somewhat insulting. Maybe the segment should be titled something other than History. Thanks for considering this comment.
